Community Speed Watch Session Highlights Positive Impact on Local Roads

Braunton's Community Speed Watch (CSW) team carried out a 90-minute monitoring session on Wrafton Road, outside Braunton Academy, on Thursday afternoon and recorded encouraging results.

During the session, volunteers monitored 287 vehicles, with not a single driver exceeding the speed threshold required for recording. The highest speed observed was 34mph, while very few vehicles were travelling at or above 30mph.

The results suggest a noticeable improvement in driver behaviour, particularly following recent discussions surrounding the installation of average speed cameras on the A361. While the cameras are located on the main route through the area, the latest figures indicate they may be having a positive influence on vehicle speeds within Braunton itself.

Community Speed Watch volunteers continue to play an important role in promoting road safety and gathering data across the village. Although enforcement cameras are now in place on the A361, the CSW team will maintain its focus on monitoring busier side roads in and around Braunton to help ensure safe driving standards are upheld throughout the community.
